News:

NEW VENUE - from January 2012 we have moved to the Victoria Park House Hotel. We are very excited about this change of venue - it holds more people with better seating and views of the stage and serves food. Full details and directions are on our 'How to find us' page. Many thanks go to everyone at The Village for giving us a home for so long, we wish you all well.

CLUB OF THE YEAR - we won the Club of the Year award at the 2011 MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards. This is a great honour and would not have been achieved but for the willingness of so many wonderful musicians to come to Leith and play for us, and of our audiences who have placed such faith in the club - thank you to you all. Thanks also to Simon Thoumire at Hands Up For Trad for organising the awards, to the event sponsors MG Alba, and to everyone who took the time to vote for us.

Coming up (click on the names for more details):

Tuesday 1st May - Phil Drane ( £6) - (reserve tickets)

Phil began singing in the folk clubs around his native North of England in the early 1970s and for the next five years was a guest at many Northern venues and occasionally supported folk luminaries such as Ralph McTell, Sandy Denny and Martin Carthy/ Dave Swarbrick. He was also one of the regular Monday night performers at the legendary MSG Club (‘The Guild’) in Manchester and was a guest at the 2012 MSG Reunion concert.

Tuesday 8th May - Woody Pines ( £8) - (reserve tickets)

'“Woody Pines brings that low-key street corner style of performance to his stage show, but with all the polish and seasoned professionalism of a tour-bus-and-green-room rock stardom....." Crackerjack musicianship goes a long way toward a band’s greatness, but showmanship seals the deal. Pines is an old soul and natural performer, storied and steeped in the best of American music. Grab your girl, your pals, tape your soul on your sleeve and go see this band! This gig is selling fast so please get your ticket order in early to avoid disappointment.

Intoxicating blend of rural and urban stringband, country blues, ragtime and jug band music' . -Maverick magazine, .

Tuesday 15th May - The Coal Porters ( £8) - (reserve tickets)

Formed in Los Angeles during the last century the Coal Porters were originally an electric act centred on ex-Long Ryder Sid Griffin. They enjoyed indie chart success in the UK and Europe and toured frequently. Their albums Land Of Hope And Crosby and Los London received grand reviews. Firmly established on the UK and European touring circuits and possessors of their own sound the Coal Porters are an acoustic act with attitude. Their live show is polished yet passionate and second to none. Check them out soon and get ready for the ride of your life!

Tuesday 22nd May - Hungrytown ( £6) - (reserve tickets)

A welcome return by award-winning retro-folk duo of Rebecca Hall and Ken Anderson. Their music mixes the snow of their home in Vermont, the dew on the grass of a cool summer morning in the Appalachians, the hard-scrabble grittiness and pluck of common folk the world over together with the melancholy of lost loves, broken hearts, and shattered dreams, distilling it into an intoxicating, hauntingly seductive blend you always want more of..

Tuesday 29th May - Tannahill Weavers ( £8) - (reserve tickets)

Their diverse repertoire reflects the duality of Scotland's musical heritage. It embraces both the mystical quality of the Highlander's Celtic music, and the rollicking, sometimes even brawling qualities of the Lowlander's Anglo-Scots tunes. The Tannahill Weavers' arrangements blend the beauty of the traditional melodies with the power of modern rhythms. The penetrating sound of the Highland bagpipes is a thread of ancient memory running through it all. This is another gig where tickets are going quickly so again, get your booking in early!

Please note that all performances are in the Clarke Suite at The Victoria Park House Hotel, 221 Ferry Road, EH6 4NN.

Please note that reserved tickets must be collected by 7.30 pm on the evening of the performance. Please note that we may not be able to acknowledge or confirm reservations made on the day of the performance.
