News:

We have two exciting pieces of news to round off 2011!

NEW VENUE - from January 2012 we will be moving to the Victoria Park House Hotel. We are very excited about this change of venue - it holds more people with better seating and views of the stage and serves food. Full details and directions are on our 'How to find us' page. Many thanks go to everyone at The Village for giving us a home for so long, we wish you all well.

CLUB OF THE YEAR - we won the Club of the Year award at the 2011 MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards. This is a great honour and would not have been achieved but for the willingness of so many wonderful musicians to come to Leith and play for us, and of our audiences who have placed such faith in the club - thank you to you all. Thanks also to Simon Thoumire at Hands Up For Trad for organising the awards, to the event sponsors MG Alba, and to everyone who took the time to vote for us.

Tuesday 7th February - Fiona Cuthill and Steve Lawrence - (£6) (reserve tickets)

Fiona Cuthill and Stevie Lawrence(£6) are currently members of Scottish based band "Rallion"  and "The Wendy Weatherby Band".  Fiona and Stevie's first CD "A Cruel Kindness" was released on the Fellside label in September 2011. They describe their music as contemporary self-penned tunes on fiddle and guitar/bouzouki with a touch of rock attitude thrown in for good measure.

Tuesday 14th February - Brigid Kaelin - (£6) (reserve tickets)

Louisville songstress Brigid Kaelin is part country, part vaudeville, and all Americana. Whether on piano, accordion, guitar, or the musical saw, Brigid has charmed audiences all over the world with her music and entertaining live show. She's been called "the Bette Midler of Alt-country" and was voted "Best Singer/Songwriter" in Louisville for the past three years.

Tuesday 21st February - Rab Noakes - (£8) (reserve tickets)

Rab Noakes is a force to be reckoned with in the world of music in Scotland and beyond. Rab Noakes'
appearance is guaranteed to be spell-binding. His voice of musical and life experience is unparalleled in Scotland's music community, and his charm, wit and talent will bring a suitable audience for such a star.

Tuesday 28th February - Gavin Pennycook and Celtic Nykelharpa - (£6) (reserve tickets)

The nyckelharpa (keyed fiddle) dates back to at least the 1400s. It was once played across Scandinavia and northern continental Europe, but only survived until modern times in Sweden. Since coming close to extinction in the early 1900s, it has been enjoying a revival.

Strangely for an instrument that suits a type of music so well, the nyckelharpa may never have been used in Irish or Scottish music until the end of the 20th Century. It has started to feature more recently, with versions of Celtic tunes with Gavin leading the charge of a rebirth of the instrument in Scotland.

Gavin is well known around the Scots/Irish session circuit, an adept and agile player who learnt to play fiddle and whistle as a child with Frank McArdle of St Roch's Ceili Band and Irish Minstrels Comhaltas in Glasgow.

Please note that from January 2012 all performances will be in the Clarke Suite at The Victoria Park House Hotel, 221 Ferry Road, EH6 4NN.

Please note that reserved tickets must be collected by 7.30 pm on the evening of the performance. Please note that we may not be able to acknowledge or confirm reservations made on the day of the performance.
